St. Patrick’s Day Recipes

Calling all the Irish- Happy St. Patrick’s Day! This day commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland and celebrates the amazing heritage and culture of the Irish. Irish immigration grew between the 19th and 20th centuries, leading to this day of Irish pride!

There are endless ways to celebrate and recognize this day with all things green, sweet, and tasty. Here are some delicious recipes to incorporate into your lucky day!


  1. Homemade Shamrock Shake

We all know and love the infamous shamrock shake, so let’s make one at home! This is the perfect treat for all ages wanting to enjoy a sweet treat for the holiday.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of mint chocolate chip ice cream (the green kind!)
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon green food coloring
  • 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract

To make your shake, simply blend all of your ingredients in a blender, adding more or less milk depending on your desired thickness. Top it off with the green food coloring to add to the magic. Enjoy!


  1. St. Patrick “Martini”

This is a fun and festive option for kids and non-drinkers craving a fancy green drink!

Ingredients:

  • 2 green Jello packets
  • 4 cups of boiling water
  • 3 cups of vanilla ice cream
  • 1 packet of unflavored gelatin

First, combine your green Jello packets with the unflavored gelatin and boiling water and mix properly. Then, add the ice cream to the mixture. Pour the contents into a fancy martini glass and let it sit in your refrigerator to settle. When ready to serve, top it off with green grapes on a cocktail pick and enjoy! Cheers!


  1. Irish Potatoes

A St. Patrick’s Day specialty and necessity to celebrate! Irish potatoes have never been easier to make. They are the perfect sweet treat to enjoy with family and friends.

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces of softened cream cheese
  • ¼ cup of softened butter
  • 4 cups of confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 ½ cups of flaked coconuts
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

To begin, beat the cream cheese and butter together in a bowl until texture is smooth. Next, add the 4 cups of sugar, vanilla extract, and flaked coconut and beat again until smooth.  And lastly, roll your mixture into a potato shape and roll the balls in the cinnamon. Place on your cookie sheet and let them chill for about 10 minutes. Enjoy!


  1. Patrick’s Popcorn

This colorful popcorn will be a favorite for the kids. After all, St. Patty’s Day food always tastes better when it’s green!

Ingredients:

  • 4 quarts of popped popcorn
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • ½ cup of water
  • ½ cup of packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup of light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon of white vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ cup of butter
  • 8-10 drops of green food coloring
 

To make, place popcorn in a roasting pan kept warm at 250 degrees in the oven. While that sits, combine the water, sugars, corn syrup, vinegar, and salt in a large saucepan. Cook this over medium heat until it comes to a boil and stir occasionally. Cook until a candy thermometer reads 260 degrees. Taking the pan off the stove, add in the butter until melted. Add your food coloring, drizzle over the warmed popcorn, toss the mixture, and enjoy! Store in an airtight container.
