Best Places to Hike in Florida

Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park
This is the biggest state park in the state sitting right near Everglades City. There are miles of hiking trails leading you through beautiful forests, rustic buildings, wild orchids, a pond, and more. The hiking trails were former roads that were once used to cut down a forest of trees that were centuries old.  It has created quite a scenic spot for hiking. You can even enjoy a nice picnic on the pond’s dock to cool down after your hike.

 

Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve

Sitting on 2,513 acres of land, this beautiful preserve offers various trails for hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, wildlife viewing, and more. You’ll have plenty to do! It’s the perfect place to explore an outdoor adventure with family and friends. Students from the surrounding elementary and middle schools have worked tirelessly to help construct the beautiful trails and environment for visitors.

 

Little Big Econ State Forest

If you’re located near Orlando, this state forest is one of the best spots to hike. It holds 5,000 acres of forest located between Orlando, Cocoa, and Daytona Beach. Here you can find exciting trails along the Econlockhatchee River with various spots of elevation changes as you go. In total, there are 16.3 miles of trails. You won’t run out of routes to follow!

 

Tiger Creek Preserve

This beautiful hilly landscape is located in the “central highlands” of Florida in Orlando, owned and managed by the Nature Conservancy. They have preserved this spot as it holds one of the highest concentrations of endangered plants and animals in the United States. Tiger Creek Preserve has about 10 miles of trails to explore. It is Florida’s oldest and highest land mass.

 

Anhinga Trail

Located in the Everglades National Park, this trail makes a perfect spot for those with wheelchairs and strollers! It is one of the easiest and most favored trails in the park. It is kid-friendly and makes for a great experience to see wildlife and stunning scenery of marshlands.

 

River Rapids Nature Trail

Another great option for the whole family to experience is located in the Hillsborough River State Park.  Enjoy boardwalks, bridges, and even a playground for little ones. It is a 1.3-mile loop trail past the river rapids. It’s the perfect spot to take the family outside for some scenic exercise!

 

Torreya Challenge

The name speaks for itself. If you’re looking for a challenge for your next hike, this 12.5-mile loop trail is for you. This Torreya State Park trail has an elevation gain of over 1,600 feet and will take approximately 5 hours to complete. You’ll want to come prepared with adequate water, food, sunscreen, and all other necessities. The reward is a beautiful view of exotic cliffs and beautiful landscapes.
