The best time to prepare for a hurricane is before hurricane season begins. Add these early preparation tasks to your spring “To-Do” list while the weather is nice and supplies are plentiful.

Preparing for a hurricane before hurricane season is an important part of being prepared in case of a storm. Here are a few tasks to add to your spring “To-Do” list:

  • Check your insurance policies to make sure you are adequately covered for any damages caused by a hurricane.
  • Create an emergency supply kit with items like bottled water, canned food, flashlights, a first aid kit, and other essential items.
  • Know your evacuation route in the case of an emergency.
  • Check the windows and doors of your home to make sure they are properly sealed and protected.
  • Trim trees and shrubs around your home to prevent them from becoming projectiles during high winds.
  • Prepare a list of important documents, such as birth certificates, passports, and insurance policies, to ensure they are safe and secure.
  • Make sure your outdoor furniture and other items are tied down or secured in case of high winds.

By taking the time to prepare ahead of time, you can have peace of mind knowing that you and your family will be better prepared for any type of hurricane.
